Hypertension

Hypertension means high blood pressure. Blood pressure is the force of blood pushing against the walls of arteries as it flows through them. Arteries are the blood vessels that carry oxygenated blood from the heart to the body tissues. Hypertension is defined as blood pressure greater than 140/90 on two or more blood pressure readings taken at each of two or more visits after initial screening.

What is High Blood Pressure?

Blood pressure is the pressure that pushes blood against the walls of your arteries. Arteries supply blood from your heart to other parts of your body. When your heart beats pumping the blood, your blood pressure becomes high, and when your heart is at rest, your blood pressure falls. High blood pressure is a common condition where the long-term blood force against your artery walls is higher than the normal range, eventually causing health issues like heart disease.
